Removing Jobs With AI:

An Unnecessary Evil

Revolutions typically come with great distrust from some sections of society and the rise of AI tools is no different; early rhetoric suggests that AI will push large sections of society out of employment. While it is true that AI will displace employees, it is also true that new roles will emerge as well as AI can complement existing employees to improve productivity.

Based on a report published by the McKinsey Global Institute, it is expected that between 400 and 800 million jobs will be lost due to automation around the world before the end of the decade. The jobs most at risk are low-skill, repetitive or easy to automate roles, however, AI did also create roles to implement, engineer and support AI technology.

Everyone is responsible for bringing forward a solution to the potential waves of unemployment created through huge disruptions. So policies like basic universal income or education policies combined with ‘aiming’ of business or government training programs are essential to avoid an even split of the workforce, creating social tension and strife.
